WHEN LONELINESS CALLS AT CHRISTMAS

Loneliness is a state of emotion none of us are immune from. Granted we each have our own degrees of loneliness & feel lonely in different situations.

I ponder these thoughts after speaking to a friend of many years this morning explaning that this was her worst time of the year for feeling lonely. She went on to explain that her family was spread far & wide and could not get together for Christmas as many families do. She had been unwell & unable to travel this year, so for the first time, spent Christmas alone. This could happen to anyone. What I found interesting was she would have been more than welcome, at my house. When I told her that, she told me she was too embarrassed to tell anyone. If only had known, I would have offered, gone to pick her up and included her in our family celebrations. Now if this can happen to a friend of many years, one I care for and contact regularly, I'm pretty sure it is happening alot!

Later today I was chatting to a friends daughter , just home for Christmas. She lives away, really only has contact with her family here. As we were talking, she said something that shocked me "I feel lonely when I'm at home, my world just isn't like this, at all". She went on to say she loved her family but felt lonely, when isolated from her friends & her normal life.

So when we are thinking of loneliness so many other emotions are attached, it can be difficult to try and nail the feeling. However I put it to you we should all be considering loneliness in the holidays, reach out a hand, give a smile or a hug. More than ever this is a time to let people you come in contact with know, they are not alone!

Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow!

Now is everything!
From the beating of my heart to the beauty around me,
Sharing moments with friends and my loving family,
Helping a stranger or giving a smile,
Just watching the sunset or a blue sunlit sky.
Now is amazing with a good look around
With eyes that can see, what some haven't found.

On to today, what can I do?
Can I change the world between ten & two,
Make someone smile or plant out a tree,
Can I turn off a light, water sparingly
Help out a stranger, lift them up to their feet,
Am I grateful enough to do a good deed?
So today, feel good with what you achieve
Now on to tomorrow & you'll see what I mean.

Well tomorrow you see starts yesterday
Because what you pass out to the world
Comes back, in a very big way
So when you are thinking "it's all about me"
Take a step back and soon you will see
That the best tomorrows mean, you felt good yesterday
You made time for others & helped in some way
So you did change the world with, "it's alright mate"
Pay it forward to others and life truly is great!

To Gather Together Or Not!

Is it reasonable that we seem to expect our family & the people we love to congregate together at these times? Are we truly asking too much in our extremely busy culture to try and achieve this monumental gathering?
I suppose it depends on your perspective! Are you someone who is expected to attend someplace that you'd rather not? Or are you the person expecting others to show?
It can be a nightmare for all concerned! Emotions can run extremely high, either way.
If it's a problem all getting together on the Holiday's then maybe we need to consider other times, after all, fuel goes up every Christmas & airfares. Maybe in these times of respect for personal space, it isn't even reasonable to have a family gathering at all. I certainly hope this is not true.
Personally I love family gatherings. Am passionate about catching up with the people I love, spending time and sharing activities. I find family get together's inspiring & fascinating.
In this crazy world of ours, how do we make it work?
